Psychology

Key Stage 5 – A Level

We teach the AQA specification (linear A level) to students.

We are the largest subject in Sixth Form; currently 132 Lower Sixth students and 75 Upper Sixth students. Students receive 9 taught hours per fortnight in the subject from 2 specialist teachers.

We encourage cooperation with local universities (e.g. Portsmouth, Southampton & Winchester etc) to carry out psychological research.

We also invite guest speakers from various areas of Psychology, for example cognitive neuroscience and forensic Psychologists who work on serious crimes such as murder.

We run trips to see eminent psychologists speak, such as Zimbardo and Loftus. In the second year students also have the opportunity to attend a conference to hear people who have served a life sentence for murder talk about their experiences in prison.

Students are encouraged to do wider reading and apply their knowledge of psychology to real life.
