Partial School Closure and Earlier Finish, Friday 20 March

At the time of writing we have no confirmed cases of Coronavirus amongst staff or learners. However, we have seen an increase in the  number of staff absent following the Government advice for ‘at risk’ groups and self-isolation.

For this reason we have taken the decision to close the School to Year 7, 8 and 9 tomorrow. We do apologise for any impact this may have on your childcare arrangements.  If you are an NHS key worker, and these arrangements would result in you not being able to attend work, please call our reception.

Year 11 and Upper Sixth Pupils and Students are to attend tutor time and lessons 1 and 2 only.  This will give them a chance to say goodbye to their Tutor and to use morning break for any other farewells. Pupils and Students in these Year Groups are asked to clear their lockers at the end of lesson 2.

Upper Sixth Students have the option to stay in after period 2 to use the Study Centre or the 6th Form Library to work on coursework or EPQs if applicable but lessons beyond period 2 will not be running.

We understand that this has been a challenging day for these Year Groups and we thank the pupils and students for the responsibility they have shown. We aim to be in touch with the Parents of Year 11 and the Upper Sixth in the coming days to support you and your child with the implications of the Government’s decision to cancel exams.

Year 10 and the Lower Sixth will attend lessons 1-4 as normal, with school closing at 2.05pm.

Pupils and students are invited to clear their lockers between 2.05pm and 3.10pm as there is significant uncertainty about when those lockers will next be accessible. Please can we ask pupils to sign in at reception if they have not attended as normal during the school day.

As I’m sure you are aware, all schools are closed from Monday for the vast majority of pupils and students until further notice.  We are anticipating further guidance from the Government on arrangements for vulnerable pupils and the children of key workers as we know this will be a concern for many of you.

Please can we take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and understanding this week. Each day has seen significant changes to the guidance given to schools and we have tried to respond appropriately.  We would like to add that the pupils and students have played their part by being exceptionally responsible and focussed on their work.
