About us

Welcome to Bay House School and Sixth Form.

Bay House is a future focused School and we are relentless in our ambition to enable the success of our learners and staff. Cultivating a ‘love of learning’ culture is central to our ethos. We embrace our moral accountability to all our learners to raise achievement, close gaps, support well-being and develop the range of learning capacities through a principled curriculum which is a sum of all the learners’ experiences. These collective experiences will ensure the sustained growth of an effective ‘Learner Voice’, encouraging contributions from the diversity of our population and the wider community that has significant impact and influence on the School.

Pupil Voice and leadership is an important feature of school life and a significant way for pupils to have genuine and meaningful influence. Bay House Pupil Voice has an executive made up of pupils from all year groups who participate in many of the forums that take place in School throughout the year; they are also involved in every recruitment process for new staff. There is a similar structure in the Sixth Form for ‘student voice’.

We celebrate the importance of working together to cooperate, collaborate and empathise with others. It is through the quality of these relationships, and how we exercise our responsibility and respect for others, that we can all experience making progress and realising our potential.

The School occupies well-equipped buildings on the site of the historic Bay House (built in 1838 as a marine villa for the Baring family). Extensive accommodation is provided for all facets of comprehensive education. Bay House School has superb facilities, which includes 15 Science Laboratories, 12 Computer Suites and extensive ICT networks. The School’s Sports Facilities, Arts accommodation and considerable Library provision are available to all. Bay House was established as an 11-18 comprehensive school in 1972 through the amalgamation of Gosport Grammar School and Privett Secondary School.

The success of our Sixth Form is nationally recognised. It ranks in the top 1% of colleges in the United Kingdom and over 90% of our students gain a place in their first choice of University. The mission of the School is to be one of the top providers in the UK by continuing to give its students an outstanding education. This it achieves through excellence in how we recruit, train and professionally develop our staff, working in partnership with universities, other schools, colleges, businesses and government agencies.

We recognise the value of, and are highly committed to developing strong and effective partnerships beyond our own walls. We actively contribute to and learn from educational improvement at a local, national and worldwide level, through the diversity and richness of our international links. In doing so, we empower our own learners to be successful 21st Century global citizens.

The School’s latest Ofsted Inspection Report graded the School as ‘Good’ overall. We are proud that leadership and management at all levels of the School were seen to be Outstanding as was the Sixth Form in all aspects. Indeed, as the report notes ‘Bay House is an increasingly successful school’ and we continue to work hard to sustain and improve further the quality of our provision and learner experience. In short, we are proud of our past and are excited about our community’s future.
