Disability Ambassadors

Hello, my name is Jacob and I am currently in the Sixth Form at Bay House School. I have taken several roles since Year 7, such as being a Deputy Head Student and last year being the Student Voice Support Leader and Mentor for the Bay House Junior Headship Team and Year 11 Prefects.

However, this year I am excited to announce the introduction of Disability Ambassadors at our school. The reason why I thought this would be a beneficial thing to have at our school is because I have noticed that as a diverse school, we have lots of peers who have a disability themselves and aren’t as confident to ask for support or even be proud of their disability and not using it as an ability.

October is Disability Awareness Month and this week I have been leading the Year Group Assemblies on Disability Awareness and Inclusion. I hope that by sharing my experiences and advice with others, it will help to bring a school that is welcoming, accepting, understanding and allows everyone to feel valued and confident.

Applications are currently open for all pupils and students and the due date for all applications is for Friday 20th October 2023 if anyone wishes to become one of our ambassadors and representative in the School House Parliament.

I hope that everyone will consider this exciting opportunity and I look forward to reading the applications and making sure that all disabilities are welcomed and visible and no one is ever left out, bullied or isolated. Instead they are proud of themselves and able to be proud, without anyone being a barrier to their confidence. Anyone can do anything, no matter what our needs and backgrounds are!
