We have been made aware that we have a confirmed positive case of coronavirus (COVID-19) in your child’s ‘bubble’ at school: Year 11 Bubble A. We have followed the national guidance and have identified that your child has been working within the same bubble as the affected person.
We have been asked to contact you directly and share that the national guidance is for your child to stay at home and self-isolate. We are asking you to do this to reduce the further spread of COVID-19 to others in the community.
Based on the case at our school, this means your child must stay at home from now, 24th November, until and including Friday 4th December 2020. Other members of your household can continue normal activities provided your child does not develop symptoms within the 14 day self-isolation period.
This means your child can return to school on Monday 7th December 2020.
What to do if your child develops symptoms of COVID 19
If your child develops symptoms of COVID-19, they should remain at home for at least 10 days from the date when their symptoms appeared. Anyone with symptoms will be eligible for testing and this can be arranged via https://www.nhs.uk/ask-for-a-coronavirus-test or by calling 119.
All other household members who remain well must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. This includes anyone in your ‘Support Bubble’. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill. Household members should not go to work, school or public areas and exercise should be taken within the home. If you require help with buying groceries, other shopping or picking up medication, or walking a dog, you should ask friends or family. Alternatively, you can order your shopping online and medication by phone or online.
Household members staying at home for 14 days will greatly reduce the overall amount of infection the household could pass on to others in the community. If you are able to, move any vulnerable individuals (such as the elderly and those with underlying health conditions) out of your home, to stay with friends or family for the duration of the home isolation period. Online Learning Arrangements
Your child will follow their usual school timetable and – in most cases – continue to have lessons with their usual teachers. Pupils will, therefore, follow a timetable that is of equivalent length and structure to the core teaching they would usually receive in school, which will include daily contact with teachers. As pupils are in their usual classes for these timetabled sessions, we expect them to follow the same curriculum sequence that allows access to high-quality online and offline resources, teaching videos and is linked to our usual curriculum expectations.
During the extended period of school closure we selected the Google Classroom suite of online tools in order to allow delivery of teaching, interaction, assessment and feedback and have ensured that pupils and staff continue to be familiar with their use.
When teaching pupils remotely, our teachers will still set assignments via Google Classroom so that pupils have meaningful and ambitious work each day in a number of different subjects and teach a planned, wellsequenced curriculum so that knowledge and skills are built incrementally, with a good level of clarity about what is intended to be taught and practised in each subject.
Each lesson will have a register taken and will provide either ‘live’ or recorded guidance with frequent, clear explanations of new content, delivered by a teacher in the school or through high-quality curriculum resources or videos. Teachers will gauge how well pupils are progressing through the curriculum, using questions and other suitable tasks. There is still a clear expectation that teachers will regularly check pupils’ and students’ work via Google Classroom. As in a regular classroom, this will enable teachers to adjust the pace or difficulty
of what is being taught in response to questions or assessments, including, where necessary, revising material or simplifying explanations to ensure pupils’ understanding.

Planned mock exams
You will be aware that Bubble A were due to sit their Maths mock papers tomorrow, and that the full mock exam window is due to begin for the whole Year 11 cohort on 7th December 2020.
